Can I still move into Banking?
I work in healthcare; and my maths is weak, Can I still move into Banking?
Of course, Yes, but firstly we need to understand that Banking is not mathematical activity, it’s an economic activity. It supports economy.
Whereas mathematics is a helping subject in that. (Part of the process)
If still concerned about that, just try understanding banking by these four formulas:
1) GDP = C + I + G + (X – M)
2) Reward to Risk Ratio = Fund Return (Return of the Portfolio) / Fund Std. Deviation
3) Sharp Ratio = Fund Return – T Bill Rate (Risk Free Return) / Fund Std. Deviation
4) NPV
Yes, it will get complicated depends upon which area of the bank you are working in especially Capital Markets and Commercial & Wealth Management. Again, maths is just like a supporting instrument.
Now, you keep it on the side for 2 minutes and look at the policies governing, that will give you broader prospect by understanding:
1) KYC/ KYP Norms
2) Bank Rates
3) Monetary Policy
4) Fiscal Policy
If this is still complicated, let’s move to History Lessons. Try to understand banking by major incidents happened in the past. (Timelines of those incidents, how economy reacted and what was banks strategy at that time)
1) World War II
2) Vietnam War
3) GST Introduced
4) Dot Com Collapse
5) 9/11
6) TFSA Introduced
7) US Sub Prime Crisis
8) COVID – 19
Just for your Information, Banks do have Training & Development Department; they will help you in it 🙂 Keep it Simple !!
